The very long journey of the Hinematioro poupou

The poupou had been brought to Europe by the British sailor James Cook. The Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen lends the carvings from its ethnological collection to the Tairāwhiti Museum in Gisborne, where a special exhibition commemorates the contact between Europeans and Maori, 250 years ago. 

Ambassador Stefan Krawielicki went to the Hauiti Marae, where a powhiri (formal welcome) took place.

Together with Tairawhiti Museum director  Eloise Wallace , representatives from Te Aitanga a Hauiti and Tanja Schubert-McArthur, Ambassador Krawielicki  has picked up the Hinematioro poupou at the Tairawhiti Museum where is was sent with a Karakia (prayer) on its journey  to Uawa Tolaga Bay.

Ambassador Stefan Krawielicki together with speaker in the house is Victor Walker from the Te Aitanga a Hauiti Center of Excellence, whose vision brought the Poupou from Tübingen to its place of origin.
