Ambassador Designate Kristina Jonek
Curriculum vitae
Kristina Jonek arrived in New Zealand in August 2026.
Prior to her arrival in New Zealand, she served as Head of the Crisis Early Warning and Strategic Foresight Division at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Throughout her career, she has held postings at the German Embassies in Bucharest, Washington, and Beijing. In Berlin, she served as Deputy Head of the Counter-Terrorism Division in the Department of International Order and worked in the Political Departments on matters relating to the Western Balkans and Southern Africa. She joined the German Foreign Service in 2002.
Kristina Jonek studied law at the University of Freiburg and passed the Second State Examination in Law, equivalent to the bar examination, in 2000. She also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Trade Law from the University of Arizona.
