The Embassy is located in the suburb of Thorndon, at 90-92 Hobson Street, just before the bridge across the Motorway and a mere 10-minute walk from Wellington Train Station.
After about 25 years in rented premises, the German government started construction of a purpose-built office building at the end of the 1970's.
On 22 May 1981, the new building was designated in the presence of the then New Zealand Foreign Minister, Hon Brian Talboys. Today, some 14 Embassy staff work at the premises in Thorndon, one of the most beautiful parts of Wellington.
