In September 2025, the Embassy in cooperation with the Green Hope Foundation, a youth-led, UN ECOSOC-accredited international nonprofit organization, successfully implemented a solar-powered water farm system in Maiana Atoll, Kiribati. This farm is providing a sustainable and reliable source of clean drinking water, serving the 1,500 residents of the island.

This youth-led, women-centered initiative addressed the pressing issue of water insecurity caused by climate change and sea-level rise, while advancing gender equality and community resilience. The project aimed to provide sustainable access to clean water while empowering local women and youth through technical and leadership training. The solar water farm system utilizes five specialized solar panels to distill water from seawater, surface water, groundwater, or rainwater. Its modular and low-maintenance design ensures suitability for remote island communities. The system also integrates rainwater harvesting and a 2,000-liter storage tank, enhancing resource efficiency and sustainability.
